The iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable iPhone. CEO John Ternus unveiled it on September 9, 2026, at Apple Park, calling it the biggest change to the iPhone since the original. It opens like a small book into a 7.6-inch tablet-shaped screen, closes to a 5.4-inch phone, starts at $1,999, and goes on sale on October 23 after pre-orders open on October 16.
What is the iPhone Duo?
The iPhone Duo is a book-style foldable with two displays. When closed, the 5.4-inch outer display gives you about 90 percent of the screen area of an iPhone 18 Pro, according to Apple, in a shorter and wider body. When opened, the 7.6-inch inner display is shaped more like an iPad mini than a stretched phone, which is better for reading, video and running two apps side by side. Apple says it is the thinnest iPhone it has ever made when unfolded.
iPhone Duo price and storage
According to Apple's US pricing as reported at launch, the iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 with 256GB of storage. Higher capacities are available up to 2TB, with the top configuration reported at $3,199. That makes it the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever sold. In the US, Apple also offers 0 percent financing through Apple Card Monthly Installments.

How is the crease?
The crease is the first thing people check on any foldable. Apple uses a layered display, with glass above and below the OLED panel and a finish that reduces reflections along the fold, and early hands-on reports say the crease is hard to see when you look at the screen straight on. As on every foldable so far, it is still visible at an angle.
Why Touch ID instead of Face ID?
Apple chose a Touch ID fingerprint sensor in the side button for the Duo, the same approach it uses on many iPads, rather than Face ID. You can also unlock the Duo with an Apple Watch.

Early impressions focus on software. Forbes' hands-on argued that the Duo's biggest strength is how iOS adapts to the larger screen, with apps that reflow properly rather than looking like stretched phone apps. The trade-offs are weight, the lack of a telephoto camera, and price: at $1,999 it costs $700 more than an iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Who should buy the iPhone Duo?
The Duo makes the most sense for people who read, edit documents or watch video on their phone for hours and would otherwise carry a small tablet. Frequent travellers and digital nomads may find a single device that doubles as an e-reader and a second screen worth the premium. If you mainly take photos and want the best zoom, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is the better buy.
